If your book is published under Cedar Forge Press or one of the other CF Publishing Group imprints, we will assign an appropriate ISBN to the book so that it can be included in the PublishNext distribution chain. ISBNs are the standard identifier for all books and are required for a book to be sold by major retailers or to be purchased by libraries. The ISBN is assigned by the publisher and cannot be transferred.
If you prefer, you can establish your own publishing imprint and purchase your own ISBN. Our Professional publishing program includes creation of your own imprint and purchase of an ISBN. Outside of our Professional program, there are additional fees involved in this service.
We will work with you throughout this process and can handle as much of the process as you request. Please contact us to discuss this option with your Acquisitions Editor. Changing the ISBN after design work has been started may incur additional fees.
Distribution through PublishNext takes advantage of our connections with major book retailers (Amazon and BarnesAndNoble.com) and the largest book wholesalers (Ingram and Baker & Taylor) to make your book available through thousands of booksellers, as well as in eBook format through most major eBook services.
Your book will be kept in print in our catalog for a minimum of two years or as long as it continues to sell at least 50 copies per year. However, you may terminate our distribution of your book at any time.
If after two years your book is no longer selling at least 50 copies per year, you have two options:
Most PublishNext books are printed through Lightning Source. This print-on-demand service eliminates the need to maintain an inventory of books, since all orders are filled as they are received.
Print-on-demand is not appropriate for all genres and designs and may not fit your specific marketing needs. We can arrange offset or digital printing of your title to match your requirements.
All PublishNext services and prices are based upon standard book trim sizes of 5.5" x 8.5" and 6" x 9" with black text on white 50 lb. book paper. Other trim sizes, paper, and full-color text are available, but may involve additional cost.
In traditional royalty publishing, the publisher takes the financial risk and makes all decisions regarding the design, editing, and marketing of the book. The publisher then pays the author a royalty of 7 to 15 percent.
One of the reasons authors choose to publish their works independently to maintain control of pricing and retain the profits from the sale of their books.
However, many self-publishing services only pay the author 20 percent of the net sales, even though the author has taken most of the financial risk. The self-publishing service even sets the retail price of the book. If authors want personal copies of their books, they receive only a small discount off the retail price.
At PublishNext, you are in control of your book, especially the financial decisions. We will make suggestions and provide guidance, but you are in control.
Our distribution fees are among the lowest in the industry. We receive 20 percent of the net sales price (30 percent for eBook formats) for distribution, accounting, marketing, and administrative functions for Cedar Forge Press titles.
Each of our publishing programs includes from 10 to 100 copies of the finished book for the author. If you want additional copies of the book for your own use or to sell directly, you pay for only the manufacturing cost, plus a small handling fee.
Royalties, fees, and costs for books published under the other CF Publishing Group imprints as part of our traditional royalty publishing will be negotiated on an individual basis.
